The Contributor’s Vision of Success
Not only external rewards but also deep inner
fulfillment
Explore the meaning of
success in our life. Contributors have a deeper and wider definition of success
than Non-contributors.
Non-contributors define success in terms of material success, achievement, external impact,
etc.
Contributors are
able to deepen and widen this definition of success to include personal
fulfillment, development of self-esteem, ongoing development of personal
capabilities, etc.
Learning
goal:
Recognize that all
people chase some “vision of success” (also called “success vision”) or other.
In this unit, you are exposed to
different “visions of success” that people have.
Recognize that a person’s “vision of success”
directs/guides one’s choices and actions, because it determines what one
values/wants in life. Thus a “vision of success” has the power to shape one’s
life.
Distinguish “contributors” by their wider and
deeper “vision of success” that includes inner success along with external
success.
Recognize the importance
of making explicit a wider and deeper “vision of success” (that includes both
inner success and external success) for oneself, if one wants to sustain / stay
on the path of contributorship in the long run.
Expanding
one’s Vision of Success:
More important, we want
to experience the challenge of working for a target and the joy of achieving
it.
Expanding
one’s Vision of Success:
More important, we want
to stretch the boundaries of my thinking and imagination, and come up
with new discoveries in my field.
More important, I want to
develop the capability of my team members and my own capabilities as a leader,
so that all of us can do well.
SUMMARY
EXPLORATION:
Contributors seek success for
the deeper rewards
(the external rewards are a
welcome bonus)
